Re: The Alliance for NanoHealth Faculty Search

To the ANH Steering Committee,

I am interested in pursuing an academic career with the Alliance for NanoHealth. I believe that my education and experience are appropriate for the program.

I earned my Doctorate of Philosophy in Chemistry at Rice University in Houston, TX under the direction of Prof. Vicki L. Colvin, Ph.D. (Chemistry) and Prof. Jennifer West, Ph.D. (Bioengineering). I am currently a post-doctoral fellow at the DuPont Haskell Laboratory for Health and Environmental Sciences under the tutelage of Dr. David B. Warheit, Ph.D., DABT (Toxicology). During my graduate studies at Rice and my post-doctoral fellowship at Haskell, I have published many peer-reviewed research papers addressing pertinent toxicological, biological, chemical, and physical issues. Using several skills from chemistry and toxicology, my aim is to advance the science of human health and environmental effects of nanotechnology. My work has focused on identifying the potential risks of nanomaterials so they can be brought to market. I now have interests in applying the knowledge acquired in my “nano” implication studies to investigating potential biocompatible “nano” applications, such as contrast agents in medical imaging, in vitro tissue engineering, and eventually, research in nanomedicine. I would like the opportunity to continue my research within a university that has the reputation of tier 1 research and making a positive contribution to society, like ANH. I have strong academic and industrial backgrounds in both biology and chemistry, and believe that I can apply my acquired experiences to your department’s goals. I will be available to begin employment in 2007.

Attached is a list of my publications. My curriculum vitae, references, research and teaching plans, and statement of career goals, which more fully details my qualifications for a faculty position, are available upon request.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Christie M. Sayes, Ph.D.
