Vision: The application of nanotechnology to cancer research may result in profound, disruptive effects on how we diagnose, treat and prevent cancer.
In the USA, the National Cancer Institute has launched in 2004 a five year initiative (the Cancer Nanotechnology Plan) to develop a concerted, multidisciplinary research effort to apply nanotechnology to drive advances in cancer research.
Fighting cancer is also one of the priorities of the French research institutions devoted to life sciences, and many research groups in INSERM, CEA, CNRS, universities and "canceropoles" are working to develop nanotechnology in cancer research.
Cancer research is highly developed in the Houston area, and the Alliance for Nanohealth links the major research institutions locally to foster the development and applications of nanotechnology to medicine.
Objectives: The aim of this workshop is to bring together scientists from France and the USA to exchange ideas, and develop new collaborations in nanotechnology and cancer research.
Purpose: To explore opportunities for collaboration between French and US based scientists and bioengineers in the application of nanotechnology to cancer with particular attention to:
Nanomaterials in diagnostics
Nanobased therapeutics
Nanotechnology enabled targeting strategies
